Abstract 26. Biofilm Management: Attack the Matrix with Ultrasound

چکیده
CONCLUSION: Despite their similarities in clinical and radiographic presentation, pediatric JE phalangeal fractures are a distinct entity from SH2 fractures. Presenting with significantly more radiographic angulation and clinical instability, JE fractures more frequently required operative fixation compared to SH2 fractures. This distinction is important when determining the treatment strategy employed (operative fixation versus nonoperative management) as well as potential length and degree of immobilization/stabilization for nonoperative management to increase the success of treatment.

Detection and quantification of bacterial biofilms combining high-frequency acoustic microscopy and targeted lipid microparticles
BACKGROUND Immuno-compromised patients such as those undergoing cancer chemotherapy are susceptible to bacterial infections leading to biofilm matrix formation. This surrounding biofilm matrix acts as a diffusion barrier that binds up antibiotics and antibodies, promoting resistance to treatment. Developing non-invasive imaging methods that detect biofilm matrix in the clinic are needed. The us...

Abstract Background and Objective: Biofilm is a complex microbial community embedded in a self-produced extracellular polymeric matrix. We aimed to study the extent of biofilm formation by S. Areas isolates and its relation to some phenotypic and genotypic criteria. Material and Methods: One hundred-fifty strains of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from Gorgan were studied. Microtiter plate a...
متن کاملThe Extracellular Matrix Component Psl Provides Fast-Acting Antibiotic Defense in Pseudomonas aeruginosa Biofilms
Bacteria within biofilms secrete and surround themselves with an extracellular matrix, which serves as a first line of defense against antibiotic attack. Polysaccharides constitute major elements of the biofilm matrix and are implied in surface adhesion and biofilm organization, but their contributions to the resistance properties of biofilms remain largely elusive. Using a combination of stati...
متن کاملCurrent Perspectives and Strategies on Biofilm Disruption and Treatments Biofilm : Wound
The presence of biofilm remains a challenging factor that contributes to the delayed healing of many chronic wounds. The major threat of chronic wound biofilms is their substantial protection from host immunities and extreme tolerance to antimicrobial agents. To help guide the development of wound treatment strategies, a panel of experts experienced in clinical and laboratory aspects of biofilm...
متن کاملEffect of Benzalkonium Chloride on Biofilm of Bacteria Causing Nosocomial Infectionstions
ABSTRACT Background and Objective: Biofilms are community of bacteria that attach to inanimate surfaces or living tissues via production of extracellular polymers and exopolysaccharide matrix. Microbial biofilms on various surfaces of the hospital environment are considered as a reservoir of infection spread. The present study aimed to evalu...
